Decoy Rockets

The CSIR Aeronautic Systems research group began work on  a Decoy Rocket project in 2011. The purpose of this project is to protect high-value vessels against the threat of anti-ship radar missiles.

Decoy Rockets typically deploy a “decoy” by means of a ballistic rocket. The Decoy Rocket project was used as a “vehicle” to facilitate skills development and knowledge transfer through the concept development, requirements development, design, analysis, prototyping, experimental development and testing phases to the point where actual, measured performance during a flight test can be correlated to theoretical intentions. The decoy rockets have a payload mass of five kilograms, a maximum range of approximately 12 kilometres and can accelerate from zero to Mach 2.0 in one second.
